Ken Heath Legal ("we", "us") respects your privacy. This policy covers personal information collected through kenheathlegal.ca. Once you retain us, your file is handled under your retainer agreement and our professional obligations as a Law Society of Ontario licensee.

What we collect and why
When you ask for a ticket review or contact us
The contact form asks for your name and phone number, and lets you add your email address, the type of matter, the date on your ticket, a photo of your ticket and a description of what happened. A ticket usually shows your name, address, driver's licence number and licence plate. We use this information only to review your matter, check for conflicts of interest and reply to you. If you call or email us, we use what you tell us in the same way.
How long we keep it: retention period for enquiries and ticket photos from people who do not retain us, e.g. 12 months after our last contact. If you retain us, your information becomes part of your client file and is kept as our professional obligations require.
When you subscribe to the newsletter
We need your email address, and you can give us your first name. We use them only to send you the newsletter you asked for. We also keep the date you subscribed so we can show that you asked for it.
How long we keep it: while you are subscribed. What happens on unsubscribe, e.g. name deleted within 30 days; email kept only as a do-not-email record
When you visit the website
Our web server automatically records basic technical details of each visit: your IP address, the page you asked for, the time and your browser type. We use these records to keep the website running and secure. They are deleted after 14 days.
The website uses a few cookies, listed in our Cookie Policy. It also uses Google Analytics and Google Fonts, explained in our Tracking Policy, where you can turn Google Analytics off.
What we don't do
We don't sell your personal information or use it for advertising, and we don't ask for more than we need. You don't have to give us any personal information to read this website or to call us.
Who can see your information
- Ken Heath and our staff, through a password-protected staff area of the website.
- An associated representative or network lawyer, only if your matter is one they handle and you agree to the referral.
- Exhibit A Media, the Hamilton company that built and maintains this website, when it needs to maintain or fix the site.
- Hetzner Online GmbH, whose server in Finland hosts the website and its database.
- Backups: copies of the website's database are kept for disaster recovery for up to 6 months on the hosting server and in Dropbox (United States). Information deleted from the website may remain in a backup until that backup expires.
- Google, which provides our email (Gmail), and Google Analytics and Google Fonts as explained in our Tracking Policy.
- Anyone else only if the law requires it.
Our service providers may use your information only to provide their service to us.
Information stored outside Canada
Our website server is in Finland, our backups are in the United States, and Google may process information in the United States and other countries. While your information is outside Canada it is subject to the laws of that country and may be accessed by its courts, law enforcement and national security authorities.
How we protect it
The website uses an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Ticket photos are stored outside the public part of the website and can only be opened by signed-in staff. The staff area needs a password, and only people who need your information can see it. No website or email system is perfectly secure, so please don't send sensitive details until we have spoken.
